Shopping for art at MTP (Poznań International Fair)
Between 4 and 6 December 2009, through the huge window of pavilion no. 3 at Międzynarodowe Targi Poznańskie (Poznań International Fair), quite an unusual scene could be observed by everybody who walked the Głogowska Street in Poznań. Crowd of people was bustling around sculptures, easels, walls covered with pictures and romantically illuminated and decorated stands with craft works. All of this was due to the Art and Craft Festival that changed the fair premises into an enormous art gallery of art and craft.
Within the Art and Craft Festival almost four hundred artists presented a great number of totally amazing, hand made pieces of art. Pictures, graphics, decorative fabric, sculptures as well as stained glass windows, pottery, jewellery, hand bags, clothes, hats, chests, interior decorations and Christmas ornaments. All of these big and small pieces of art were not only admired but also bought and ordered by the visitors of the Festival.
Art within the reach of your hand
Over 13 thousand visitors could, without any limitations, admire best quality art. The artists presented extensive selection of pictures and beautiful pieces of applied art such as pieces of jewellery, glassware and pottery. The exhibition also included sculptures, graphics and photographs.
One of the most impressive events was the exhibition organized by The Association of Polish Artists and Designers, entitled "Poznaj Zmiany" (See the Changes). Within this special festival event a hundred artists from Poland, Lithuania, Russia, Ukraine, USA and France presented over 300 drawings, pieces of graphic art, paintings, decorative fabric and sculptures. The Festival's guests emphasized the fact that this type of exhibition is one of a kind opportunity to experience Art "with a capital A". The Association of Polish Artists and Designers together with the "Artluk" magazine also organized a conference entitled "Poznaj zmiany w sztuce" (See the Changes in Art).
Shopping for gifts
The craft stands enjoyed enormous popularity. The visitors were very interested in all things connected with Christmas such as: decorations, Christmas tree ornaments and gifts. Most certainly all of the pieces shown at the exhibition could be used as gifts.
Workshops
The workshops became very popular among the visitors. How to make every-day use objects look vintage? How to make a beautiful personalized Christmas card? How to make your Christmas tree look special? How to make earrings or a necklace? Everybody who visited the Art and Craft Festival could find answers to those questions and also buy all of the necessary art and craft materials and tools.
In a folk style
This year the Festival was also enriched by the folk artists. Craft women wearing national costumes were knitting, embroidering and teaching how to make traditional Christmas tree ornaments. Folk artists encouraged the visitors to making art pieces on their own and with traditional methods. Also within the Festival the Marshal's Office of the Wielkopolskie Voivodeship organized a traditional food fair where the visitors could taste local delicacies.
